Seeing as I’ve been in possesion of my brand new Nikon D300s for more than two hours now, I feel obligated to write a few words about it.

Of course I planned on having this post illustrated with lovely photos taken with the new Nikon D300s, but alas, neither iPhoto nor Adobe Bridge has support for the RAW files this camera outputs – yet. I’m also supposed to be studying right now, so I don’t have time to run out and redo all my shots either.

But, to the matter: Coming from the D80, this really feels like a great camera. Heavy and solid, and familiar placing of all (well, most) knobs, handles and wheels. The menu is extensive, and I really think I need to read the manual to get a grip of everything and be able to use the camera to its full extent.

All in all I’m happy with it so far. I do have a list of things I hope Nikon will incorporate in the first firmware upgrade, though – with reservation in case this just isnt’ defauly, and I need the manual to understand:

  • Why can’t I use the command wheels to scrool through images, like on the D80?
  • Why won’t the camera show me more detailed info and histograms for each color channel, like the D80?

Ehrm, okay, two points, that barely qualifies for a list, doesn’t it?

I’ll come back with more through the weekend, as I get to play with it more. But so far: Happy and excited! This looks great!

Edit: Just a little test shoot.. I absolutely love the shutter sound on this baby!
